If you have completed the L1 certification prior to April 10, 2010, you will now be required to take the L1 certification test before December 31 in order to keep your trainer certification current. You can take the test for free once – you take the test on day 2 of any L1 cert, but you have to register for it (click on the cert you want to register for, and go from there.)

CrossFit.com has put together a FAQ regarding the testing. READ it here only (but to register, click on the two links below to register for the cert in DALLAS!)

There are two certs coming up in Dallas that you can take the test at.
April 24-25 at CrossFit Strong.
May 1-2 at CrossFit Strong.

When you read the FAQ, make sure you DO NOT register from there – just READ it. To register, click on the Dallas certs.
(I registered from the FAQ, and it’s a cert in Minnesota – oops…hope they will fix it!)

Well, there’s all of the criticism floating around outside of the CrossFit community that the certs aren’t “legit”, in the way an AFAA or some other fitness cert may be, because there isn’t any “testing” done. It’s basically an attendance certificate (which is true). The testing may help squelsh the outside negativity towards CrossFit certs by others in the fitness industry.

I am attending the cert at end of April, so if any of you who are taking the test want to coordinate, that would be great.

I’m fine with the testing for new certs. I don’t see the point in having people take extra time from their lives to go take a multiple choice exam years after they’ve done the alleged cert. Many people traveled long distances to make whichever cert they went to. This is an inconvenience in the very least for someone who lives in a remote location or in an area that doesn’t regularly host certs.

For some reason they’re not doing these at GSX anymore so I’m going to take 4 or so hours out of my weekend and drive to Dallas to do this. The only positive I can see for me is I’ll get a new certificate since I’ve lost mine. And what’s with charging $150 for a retake? I guess the cost of a #2 pencil and scantron have gone up exponentially since I got out of school. Or maybe it’s just another cash grab by coach.
