There’s no doubt CrossFit is requires great patience in learning new techniques, as well as a great deal of practice to get faster and faster. What is your nemisis?
For me, it was pullups. When I committed to learning how to do kipping pullups, it took me a full year before I could do one, let alone string them together. The worst part was, my biggest obstacle had nothing to do with my physical strength. My biggest obstacle was all in my head. I couldn’t visualize the technique or put together the entire movement. And I was FRUSTRATED. I was the recipent of many tidbits of advice, but no matter what, I could either get my shoulders going or my hips, but never both at the same time.
I remember vividly the day it all came together. Dutch told me I knew what to do, and as he said, “gave me some alone time with my pullups”. Five minutes later, I put it together and finally got ONE! I ran to get Dutch and made him watch me do it again because I was in disbelief that I had done it. Sure enough, I did one, then promptly did 10. I will never forget it because pullups were something I sincerely thought I’d never be able to do!
So, what’s frustrating you? I will give you the same advice Dutch gave me…You already know what needs to be done. Get out of your head, stop thinking about it….just get it done. No matter what, do NOT give up. Everything takes time and practice. None of what we do is meant to be easy.
