Get to know…..Lynn Vara

How long have you been a CrossFitter? I started when CF7 opened – April 2009.

What is your previous sports/fitness background? I was a swimmer in college. Now, I’m a runner.

What is your favorite CrossFit WOD? I like Saturday workouts and any workout that lasts over 30 minutes.

Least Favorite? I sometimes skip workouts that only involve lifting.

Your Fran time? It was 7:45, with 60# and the red band. One minute faster and 5 lbs more than last time.

What athlete (CrossFit or otherwise) do you admire most and why? Lance Armstrong

What do you hope to accomplish by doing CrossFit? I want to break 1:50 on a ½ marathon. I want to run faster than my brother in law.

Do you train for a specific purpose (ie, another sport)? See ½ marathon (above).

What are your CrossFit goals
? I want to start stringing together pullups with no red band.

Do you paleo or zone?  No. It takes a lot of bad food to maintain this physique.

Would you rather do 100 burpees, 100 pullups or 100 squats? Burpees!

What do you do when you are not at CrossFit? I teach ESL to very motivated (adult) Spanish speakers and I’m a Disaster Assistance Team Captain with the Red Cross. Oh, and I try to keep Chris out of trouble.

Lifting shoes of Vibram five fingers? Not yet.

What is on your favorite CrossFit t-shirt? Ask your doctor if getting off you’re a$$ is right for you.

What do you do for warmup? Depends on the workout…

What do you do for recovery? How often do you take rest days? I take days off when my body refuses to do another workout.

What is the best piece of advice you’d give a new CrossFitter? Don’t be intimidated. A little fear is ok, but don’t let it keep you away. Do the best you can and try to do a little more each day. Keep a log.

What CrossFit certs have you been to or hope to go to? I’m not ready for that yet.

If you could have dinner with three CrossFit all-stars, who would it be? I’d like to meet Coach Burgener.

What do you like best about CrossFit Seven? I like the atmosphere and the people at the gym.

Any other information you would like the world to know?? I somehow convinced my husband and his twin to join CrossFit. Unfortunately, this hasn’t turned out well for me. They’re both in better shape and they’re running faster. My training secret is not a secret any more…
