I’ve got Olympic fever! I watch every thing that is on, and I have watched most all of the weightlifting – it has been AMAZING!!!
Om Yun Chol (pictured), at 55kg (121 lb.) went 125kg (275 lb.) in snatch and set an Olympic record with a 168kg (370 lb.) clean and jerk. Only the 5th time in history a lifter has gone over 3 times body weight!!
On Monday, there were several new Olympic records set, including Oscar Albeiro Figueroa Mosquera (Columbia, 62kg class) set a new Olympic record in C&J at 177kg (390 lb. – that’s almost 3x body weight!)
I’m excited because my favorite lifters are headed to the platform later this week, and I’m super pumped to watch Ilya Ilyin in the 94kg class on Friday, as well as the 105kg class on Monday…why? These guys put up insane weights. Check out Khadzhimurat Akkaev – he will lift in the 105kg class, and in this practice session, he clean and jerks 245kg. That’s 539 lbs. Are you kidding me??
