Get to know….Megan B.!

How long have you been a CrossFitter?
Just over a year now

What is your previous sports/fitness background?
Before I was pregnant with my 3 boys, I worked out at franchise gym and generally just took their classes and did cardio. Way different from CrossFit…WAY!

What is your favorite CrossFit WOD?
Murph

Least Favorite?
Anything with muscle-ups because I have not yet mastered this skill

Your Fran time?
Don’t know that one

What athlete (CrossFit or otherwise) do you admire most and why?
I have to say my sister, Heather Bowie Young, who is on tour with the LPGA. She has worked incredibly hard to get to where she is, and she does what she loves doing every single day…playing golf!

What do you hope to accomplish by doing CrossFit?
At first, it was an outlet which I needed and still need to break up my days with 3 little ones under the age of 3…now, it’s about the relationships and the competition for sure! I want to be faster, stronger, BETTER!!!

Do you train for a specific purpose (ie, another sport)?
I wish I could say yes to this one…I really wish I was an Olympic athlete and that my parents would have pushed me harder like they pushed my sister, but no, no other sport.

What are your CrossFit goals?
To get stronger and faster!

Do you Paleo or zone?
Paleo…well most of the time

Would you rather do 100 burpees, 100 pullups or 100 squats?
Burpees for sure!

What do you do when you are not at CrossFit?
I sell houses…and take care of my 3 precious boys, they are gifts straight from God…Naaman (2 1/2), Miles (16 months), and Finn (16 months)

Lifting shoes or Vibram five fingers?
I prefer New Balance Minimus

What is on your favorite CrossFit t-shirt?
Well, I have 3 favorites…”your workout is my warm-up”, “the ones who come out on top are the ones who trained in the hardest school”, and “all it takes is all you got”

What do you do for warmup?
Always, always, always row 500 meters first and then I do the prescribed warm-up that’s on the board

What do you do for recovery?
I stretch and roll sometimes…but definitely not enough!

How often do you take rest days?
Usually 2 days a week, sometimes 1…I HATE taking a day off even though it’s good for me!

What is the best piece of advice you’d give a new CrossFitter?
Don’t try to put a bunch of weight on the bar right of the bat…master the skill first and then add weight. Get that muscle memory, and don’t start bad habits, they are really hard to break. I learned this the hard way. I am still trying not to pause in my cleans and snatches!

What CrossFit certs have you been to or hope to go to?
None yet but would love to get my Level 1 sometime as well as the gymnastics cert.

If you could have dinner with three CrossFit all-stars, who would it be?
Rich Froning, Chris Spealler and Julie Foucher

What do you like best about CrossFit Seven?
Definitely the relationships

Wod: 285 reps – after the HSPU it was hard to get a rhythm on the DU’s

Did LeanFit today. Nice to have a fun run in the rain, but I think I was about halfway through it before I realized it was a 1/2 Murph in disguise. Not funny, Ryan.
