Max Effort, aka Andy P., is a regular at CrossFit Seven.  Max can lift a lot of weight, and he also doubles as the CF7 music critic.

PRs:
FGB: 333
Fran: 3:50
Grace: 2:33
Murph: 36:00
1RM Deadlift: 495
Bench Press: ????? “It’s really off the charts. I am Max Effort.”

How did you get into CrossFit?
Well, I’ve lifted for a long time. I got tired of isolating my muscles – I was bored. BOARD.

Max Effort, lifting at age 4.

How did you get the nickname “Max Effort”?
I think Whiskey or Ronin made it up. Whiskey isn’t that funny, so my guess is that it was Ronin.

You have become the unofficial CF7 music critic, Simon Cowell style. What is your favorite WOD tune?
“Mary Had A Little Drug Problem” by Scratch Acid. And, I like to warm up to game show tunes.

What is your favorite CrossFit WOD?
From CrossFit Football: 5 rounds for time of 7 reps, 350 lb. deadlift and 21 double unders.

And last, your favorite classic CrossFit video?

Saturday Classics

We bring you a new addition to the CrossFit Seven blog, “Saturday Classics”, where we highlight our members and classic CrossFit videos. Our first post will feature our fearless leader, Ryan Shupe.

Amie: What is your fitness background?
Ryan: I was a collegiate athlete, professional tennis player, parkour runner, and have been running, jumping, climbing, lifting since I was a little boy.

What’s your CrossFit story?
I discovered CrossFit in 2007, found it by googling phrases like Crazy workout or Ultimate workout. I really wanted to try PX90, but I decided CrossFit was a better fit for me.

What was the first WOD you did?
Cindy

LUCKY You! How many rounds did you do?

11, I think. My current PR is 29 or 30 rounds.

What do you like to do when you are not at CrossFit?
Spend time with my family, friends and drink a lot of coffee.

Do you follow a particular diet? What do you like to eat?
I’m about 85% Paleo. I like chips & salsa, pizza, ice cream.

What’s the story on dynoball? Who’s the reigning champion?
Dynoball is the story! It will never die. There used to be a man that came around a while back but his lack of dedication, motivation and committment proved too much for him to handle. Last I heard, he retired and now lives in a trailer.

Does this man live in one of the trailers down the street? I don’t know…he’s a little like Bigfoot. A lot of people claim to see him, but we are not sure if he really exists. If you hear a strange grunting sound when he lifts something heavy, that may be him.

Can Max Effort bench press more than you? Of course! Have you seen how much bigger his arms are compared to his legs? He’s grossly unproportional – bench press is pretty much all he can do.

Are lifting shoes really that big of a deal? Yes, I cannot lift without them.

What is your all time favorite CrossFit video?
Probably the Mikko Salo documentary video. (Which is available at www.crossfitjournal.com, if you have a subscription. If you don’t please enjoy the classic video below, OPT does Helen.)

Post thoughts to comments, as well as your favorite CrossFit video.
