Kelly Starrett, aka KStar, is part of CrossFit HQ staff, and I would describe him as a cross between Yoda and Obi-Wan Kenobi when it comes to mobility and recovery. The man knows his stuff. KStar launched a new blog last week, “Mobility WOD”:

“This blog is intended as a jump off point for athletes to systematically begin to address their nasty tissues and grody joint mobility. Be cool. Use at your own risk and stop if you think it’s gonna hurt you, your spine is going to come out your throat, or your face goes numb. But, understand that you should be responsible for your own business. Don’t wait until you need a new knee. Pony up.”

Here is the first entry. Try it today, and post results to comments.

Ode to Whiskey

CrossFit Seven’s loss is CrossFit Dallas Central’s gain…..Whiskey is relocating to Dallas for his new job and will take up residence with Spencer’s crew over at Dallas Central…..sad for us, good for them!

When I first met Whiskey about three years ago, I was really scared of him. I had been CrossFitting on my own for a year and half, and working out with other CrossFitters was a new experience for me. I was intimidated by how strong everyone was, and I couldn’t figure out why this guy Whiskey kept yelling at me…It didn’t take me long to see Whiskey wasn’t yelling – he was commanding me to do my very best. I learned to admire that Whiskey demanded you give your all, and when he coached, he wasn’t going to let you whimp out and not try to move a heavy weight. Whiskey was great at barking orders, demanding you move, which also helped you build great confidence when your mind and body told you that you couldn’t. Whiskey taught me that it’s better to fail moving a big weight than to whimp out and not try, and over time, that helped me become a strong athlete.

Whiskey, many, many thanks to you from all of us, and we all wish you great luck. We also expect you to drop by and visit once in a while, as well as bust some chops on the blog.

What’s new on the CrossFit Journal (CFJ)?

Check out Mic’d up with Chuck Carswell. Chuck is on the CrossFit Headquarters training staff, and if you ever get to see him lift in person, he is wicked strong and fast. This article is a free download and chronicles Chuck’s adventures as a judge for the 2010 Games.

Another gem is this free download from Speal, Spirit of the Games. Speal is a CrossFit legend and one of the most gifted (AMAZING) athletes I’ve ever seen.

Be sure to check out the CFJ website. New articles are posted daily, and there is a wealth of information here. A yearly subscription is $25 and worth every penny.

Post your favorite CFJ article to comments.
